Sweet Fuse: At Your Side [REVIEW]

A good news for those who play English otome games on PSP!!!! Aksys Games, Idea Factory & its subsidiary - Design Factory, and Otomate partnered together and came up with a new English otome game Sweet Fuse: At Your Side for PSP! It came out quite awhile already but I just discovered it a few weeks ago.

The artwork of this game is very English-style and the story plot is refreshing. The whole thing take place at an amusement park. There are puzzles and riddles to solve. I could say that the game is a mix of mystery, adventure, friendship and romance. All of the characters including the extras, but excluding the protagonist, has a voice of their own. It also allow you to take screenshots of any part of the game but there will be copyrighted words below. Here's the official trailer and opening of the game:

After watching the trailer, you will realize there are 6 characters... No, 7 characters introduced excluding the protagonist. The 7th character is a hidden guest which will only appear after the first gameplay.

Summary of the Game:

You're the protagonist - Saki Inafune (name can be changed). Your uncle, Keiji Inafune, has just recently built an amusement park and you're invited to the opening ceremony. That day, something bad happened and your uncle is kidnapped by an unknown black pig - Count Hogstein. Count Hogstein want to destroy the amusement park but created a game to let someone save the day. In order to save the amusement park, you volunteered yourself. There are 6 males personally chosen by Count Hogstein to play the game too. They are unwilling parties who were forced to participate and have reasons for being chosen. 7 attraction spots of different themes, and 7 days to complete the game. As you work with the 6 characters, you'll fall in love with the one you desired and have a fruitful experience.

If your love for him is strong, you'll get a happy ending with him and get CG. If your love is not strong enough, you'll just get the normal ending and can't unlock the character ending movie.

Anyway, it's a visual novel game so don't worry so much for not being able to beat the puzzles. Watch the gameplay video to understand better.

The gameplay is pretty easy, just read and choose correct answers. The decision you make will affect the affection of your desired character. To make the game more interesting, there are 'Explosive☆Insight' which need you to think. From the given paragraphs, you need to pick out 3 keywords or phrases that might be a hint to solve the problem. Only 1 correct answer and 'Insight Incited' will be shown.

Furthermore, there will be times where you can choose to get angry or restrain yourself against other characters. I suggest 'restrain yourself' on your teammates (for most of the times but not every time) and 'get angry' at Count Hogstein at every chance you have. Sometimes, if you make the wrong choice, you'll face GAME OVER or get the normal ending. At the end of each day, for the first 3 days, there will be Break Time where you can choose a character to spend quality time and his affection will increase~

I really thought the protagonist is a boy initially until I look more closely...

I don't really like Towa Wakasa, absolutely not my type. He's too kiddish and timid for a 17 years old... Of course, no offense to those who like cute boys.

Kouta's look scares me. He look like a mental patient in that shirt.

Ayumu always have a chocolate stick in his mouth... I thought it's cigarette.

The crystal ball is really irritating and so not appealing! Kimimaro carries it everywhere he goes and even in his CGs! Why?!

Makoto Mikami is the last hidden main character, his route is pretty special. There is also another character, Dasoku, that will appear after the 3rd gameplay. He is just a guest appearance. It appear that he is the one who sings for the opening and closing of the game. By the way, 1 extra tip - exchange your last & first name if you want to see your first name being use most of the times. In this game, your last name is often used.
